NMC norms for MBBS abroad require a minimum 54-month academic course, followed by a 12-month internship in the same foreign country/university, all in English. The total duration must exceed 5.5 years, must be in-person, and candidates must pass NEET-UG, ensure the university is licensed locally, and complete the course within 10 years.
Key NMC Guidelines (2025-26):
- Course Duration: The medical course must last at least 54 months (4.5 years), excluding internships.
- Internship Requirement: A mandatory 12-month supervised internship must be completed in the same foreign medical institution/hospital where the degree was pursued.
- Total Duration: The entire course, including training and internship, must be at least 5.5 years.
- Medium of Instruction: The course, including practical and theory training, must be taught entirely in English.
- Course Structure: In-person training is mandatory; online/hybrid, and split-campus/twinning programs are generally not recognized.
- License to Practice: The degree must allow the student to practice in the country where the university is located.
- Maximum Timeframe: The course must be completed within 10 years of admission.
- Registration in India: After graduating, students must clear the National Exit Test (NEXT) and, if required, complete an additional supervised internship in India.
